Compact exists to manufacture and supply professional lighting systems to multiple retailers. Our focus on this market enables us to produce cost effective products, designed specifically for today's retail environment. Our aim is to enable the retailer to design and prove better lighting concepts, control the implementation against agreed standards, project manage the roll-out and control costs.

We are an autonomous company within one of the UK's largest lighting groups employing more than 600 staff across five sites. Compact's own 30,000 sq ft purpose built factory in Portsmouth is dedicated to the manufacture of retail lighting systems using state-of-the-art plant, production techniques and information technology. Compact recruits and trains both lighting and project management professionals. We currently supply lighting to more than a third of the UK's top one hundred retailers. Lighting Design Lighting to the Designers

We can work from designers’ and architects’ rough sketches or comprehensive drawings. If necessary, our engineers can produce detailed layouts in AutoCAD, or check your own layouts for light levels, producing a 3D Dialux rendered image to verify results before anything is built. Our practical approach means we will mock up ideas on site, or at one of our showrooms, to test everything before installation. We work in partnership with the designer and architect to preserve the aesthetic and solve the technical. Lighting DesignDesign

Compact are ready willing and able to assist you and your design team to develop a lighting concept. We have our own Lighting Design software but generally take a practical approach and will mock up ideas on your sites or at one of our showrooms. Our products are designed with a clear focus on Retail Lighting. We match or exceed the highest technical and aesthetic standards available but leave out any expensive gimmicks that serve no purpose to the retailer. Our Lighting Design office will produce detailed layouts on AutoCAD if required or check your own layouts against the standard details when an order is raised.

ManagementManagement

Our own project managers will support your team. Having agreed the standard details we store the design in a central database format that is available to all of our internal departments and can also be made available to you and our external sales team via our e-commerce web site. Our project managers will keep up to speed with your roll-out plans so don't worry if the landlord holds up his consent: we manage product availability against forecast demand - not stock against orders. OrderingOrdering

COMPACT will provide you with Project Specific ordering forms which show drawings, lamp specification and design guides alongside your own description. Fill in the quantities and you have a simple and consistent interface between your requirements and our manufacturing schedule. If you need copies or to check the latest spec you can access the Project Specification data on your own secure page within our Website - which also shows stock information and the status of your quotations, orders and deliveries for each site.

ManufacturingManufacturing

Our plant and production systems are designed for Retail roll-outs. The design of every process involves balancing the needs of fast cycle times to keep costs down and short set-up times to ensure that we can switch production over without cost if you need an extra fitting urgently and we don't have the stock. Everything is in-house from metalwork fabrication, powder coating, assembly and final test to ensure that you only pay for each process once.

DeliveriesDeliveries

COMPACT deliver. Most lighting companies are used to the luxury of at least a weeks window for deliveries. You need us to arrive on-site, on-time and on the day specified. Next day carriers are used or our own transport for potentially difficult sites such as new Shopping Centres. When things go wrong, which they occasionally do, we will stop at nothing to help. We will source alternative transport, lamps and even luminaires if necessary rather than leaving you to find a solution to our problems.

CostsCosts

COMPACT understands that you have a budget and recognise the importance of helping you to work within it. No matter how many orders, extras and changes you make we will link every order and delivery to a site. From the moment a quote is raised through the ordering, manufacturing and delivery cycle you will be able to monitor the summarised costs for that site. After the handover we will issue one clear Summary Invoice which allows you to confirm costs against the Budget without having to match a bundle of invoices to delivery notes.
