Compact Lighting Ltd. design and manufacture a complete range of products to create premium lighting solutions for retail and display environments. Compact was established in 1992 and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of one of the UK’s most exciting and successful lighting manufacturing groups, F W Thorpe PLC, itself founded in 1936 and currently employing some 500 staff across six sites.

Compact’s own 30,000 sq ft purpose-built factory in Portsmouth is dedicated to the manufacture of lighting systems using state-of-the-art manufacturing plant, production techniques and information technology. From here we supply lighting to many of the UK's top 100 retailers as well as supplying our lighting globally.

The overriding principle of our organisation is honesty. We will always specify the most appropriate lighting solution from our product range for your end-use. On those few occasions when we are unable to match your exact requirements we will always strive to help you by developing bespoke solutions in-house. This can be achieved very quickly through our 3D CAD and CNC manufacturing capabilities.
We will not compromise on the quality of our light-sources, control gear or optics. In each case these are sourced from world-renowned brands, often to our customers' own preference. Regarding general components we have developed global supply relationships with foundries, extruders, and moulding producers etc. helping us to be cost-effective and competitive.

The style and potential savings from imported goods can be very tempting. If you do choose imported products, sourced via Compact, rest assured that we will carefully vet and test the quality more thoroughly than a distributor ever could and that we have the processes, facilities and resources to manage the associated stock and ordering. Be aware, however, that timing of deliveries, consistency between batches and total quality can only be truly guaranteed if the product is made under our own roof in our Portsmouth factory.
